In short
A classroom timer displays a countdown large enough for a whole room to read, so pupils pace themselves instead of asking how long is left. This page opens at 5 minutes, runs fullscreen on a board or projector, and can run silently.

Why a visible timer changes a room
Timed tasks work because of what the class can see, not what the teacher knows. A countdown on the board sets the pace for everyone at once: the pupils who would drift start sooner, the ones who would gold-plate their answer wrap up, and the teacher stops being the clock.
The strip of ticks under the digits is there for the back of the room, where reading exact numbers is hard but noticing that half the bar has gone is not.
Lengths for a lesson
| Time | Activity |
|---|---|
| 1 min | Think-pair-share, quick recall, packing away |
| 3–5 min | Starters, retrieval practice, exit tickets |
| 10 min | Group tasks, station rotations, silent reading |
| 15–20 min | Extended writing, practicals, presentations |
| 45–60 min | Whole lesson or a full mock paper |
Running it from the front
Open the page on the machine driving the board, press F for fullscreen, and use the space bar to start and pause — most presenter remotes send a space key, so you can control it from anywhere in the room. Press Escape to come back out to the slides.
If a task is running short, +1 minute adds time without resetting the countdown or the mood.
Questions about the classroom timer
Can I use it on an interactive whiteboard?
Yes. Any browser on a smart board or projector works, and fullscreen scales the digits to the display size, so it stays readable from the back.
Is there a silent version for exams and quiet work?
Press Sound off and the countdown runs with no alarm at all — the display still shows when it has finished. That is often better during writing tasks.
Will it still work if I lock my phone?
Yes. Locking the screen does not pause anything — the remaining time is worked out from the clock, not from how long the page has been visible. While the timer runs the site also asks your phone to keep the screen awake, so it will not dim on you mid-countdown.
Is there a limit on how many timers I can run?
No. Open the page in as many tabs as you like — each one counts independently and shows its own remaining time in its tab title.
