In short
A meditation timer counts a sitting silently and marks the end with a single sound, so there is nothing to check partway through. This page opens at 10 minutes, the usual starting length, with no guided voice and no music.

Why a timer belongs in a sitting practice
Most of what makes early practice difficult is not the sitting — it is the wondering. How long has it been. Is that ten minutes yet. Should I check. A timer takes that question off the table entirely: there is nothing to decide until the sound comes, so there is nothing to check.
Put the device face down or across the room. You do not need to see the digits; you need to know they are running.
Lengths people actually sit
- 5 minutes — a beginning that survives a busy week
- 10 minutes — the usual starting point in most traditions and apps
- 20 minutes — twice daily is the classic Transcendental Meditation structure
- 30 minutes and up — once sitting still is no longer the hard part
Daily and short beats occasional and long. Ten minutes every morning does more than an hour on a Sunday.
Sitting with this page
- Set the length and press start.
- Turn the phone face down, or press Fullscreen and dim the screen.
- Sit upright, hands anywhere comfortable, eyes closed or softly lowered.
- Follow the breath. When you notice you have wandered — and you will, repeatedly — come back. That noticing is the practice, not a failure of it.
- Let the chime end the sit. Do not stand up straight away.
Questions about the meditation timer
Is there an interval bell partway through?
Not on this page. For a session with phase changes — a bell every few minutes, or alternating sitting and walking — use the interval timer and set work and rest to the lengths you want.
Can I meditate in silence with no alarm at all?
Press Sound off before you start and the countdown runs silently. The screen still shows when it is finished, which suits practice with your eyes open.
How accurate is it?
Accurate to a fraction of a second over an hour. There is no rounding and no accumulated error, because each update recalculates the time left from scratch rather than subtracting from the last figure.
Do I need to sign up?
No. There are no accounts on this site at all, which also means there is nothing to store about you and nothing to delete later.
