In short

A 30 minute timer counts down from 30:00 to zero and sounds an alarm — 1800 seconds in total. This page opens with 30:00 already loaded, so pressing start is the only step, and the length can be changed to anything else without leaving the page. A 30 minute countdown is most often used for meetings, deep work blocks, workouts and slow bakes.

How to use the 30 minute timer

  1. Press Start. The 30 minute countdown begins immediately — there is nothing to set up first.
  2. Want a different length? Type into the minutes and seconds boxes, then press Start.
  3. Press Fullscreen to fill the screen with the digits, which is what you want across a room.
  4. Leave the tab open and carry on working. The tab title counts down, and the alarm still sounds.

What people time for 30 minutes

Half an hour is the unit most calendars are built from, so it is the timer people reach for most after five minutes.

  • Meetings that should not creep into the next slot
  • Longer study and deep work blocks
  • Roasts, casseroles and slow bakes
  • Full workouts, including warm-up and cool-down
  • Screen time limits for children, agreed in advance

A visible half hour is a negotiating tool. When everyone in the room can see the countdown, the meeting closes itself, and nobody has to be the person who says we are out of time. Try the meeting timer for a version framed around agendas.

Change the length without leaving the page

The minutes and seconds boxes above accept any duration — this page simply opens with 30 minutes already loaded. If another length is the one you reach for, the pages below open pre-set and can be bookmarked.

Questions about the 30 minute timer

Can I pause and come back to it?

Yes. Press the same button to pause and to resume, or hit the space bar. Reset takes it back to the full thirty minutes.

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The countdown is measured against your device clock rather than counted by the page, so switching tabs or opening another app does not slow it down. The alarm sounds at zero as long as the tab is still open.

Can I use it at work, in a gym or in a classroom?

Yes, without restriction. Project it, put it on a shared screen, or link to it — there is no licence to buy and no commercial-use limit.

Why can I not hear the alarm?

Check that the Sound button reads Sound on, that your device is not on silent, and that the tab is not muted in your browser. Browsers only allow audio after you interact with a page, so the first press of Start is also what switches the sound on.
