Rounds that switch themselves

Interval timer

Three numbers — work, rest, rounds — and the timer handles the rest of the session. It changes colour and plays a tone at every switch so you know where you are without looking.

In short

An interval timer alternates timed work and rest periods for a set number of rounds, rather than counting a single block. Set three numbers — work seconds, rest seconds, rounds — and it runs the whole session, changing colour and playing a tone at every switch.

Inputs
Work seconds, rest seconds, round count
Maximum rounds
99
Rest of zero
Allowed — gives continuous EMOM-style rounds
Warning
Three beeps in the last three seconds of each phase

What an interval timer does that a countdown cannot

A plain countdown gives you one block. An interval timer gives you a session: a work phase, a rest phase, and a round counter, repeating until the set is done. That is the difference between timing an exercise and timing a workout.

It is not only for the gym. Language drills, sight-reading practice, typing exercises and physiotherapy routines all run on the same structure.

Reading the display mid-round

  • Amber digits and bar — work phase.
  • Green label — rest phase.
  • Round x of y under the digits, so you know what is left.
  • Three short beeps in the last three seconds of every phase, as on the HIIT timer.

Common interval structures

Fixed work with short rest builds conditioning. Short work with long rest builds power and keeps quality high. Equal work and rest is the general purpose middle. If you are training a specific sport, match the interval to the demands of the sport rather than to what feels hardest — a 400m runner and a climber need different clocks.

Questions about the interval timer

How many rounds can I set?

Up to 99, which is more than any sensible session needs. The round counter and the tick strip both scale to whatever you choose.

Can rest be zero?

Yes. Set rest to 0 for continuous rounds — useful for EMOM-style work where the next round starts the moment the last one ends.

Can I keep working in another window while it runs?

Yes, and the tab title shows the remaining time, so a glance at the tab bar tells you where you are without switching back. The alarm plays whether or not the tab is in front.

Is it really free?

Yes. Every timer here is free, needs no account, and never asks for an email address.
