3 minute timer

A three minute countdown with a clear alarm. Set it once, start it, get on with the task.

3 minutes

03:00

Shortcuts: space start or pause · R reset · F fullscreen. The alarm rings even if you switch tabs.

In short

A 3 minute timer counts down from 3:00 to zero and sounds an alarm — 180 seconds in total. This page opens with 3:00 already loaded, so pressing start is the only step, and the length can be changed to anything else without leaving the page. A 3 minute countdown is most often used for steeping black tea, soft boiled eggs, and boxing rounds.

How to use the 3 minute timer

  1. Press Start. The 3 minute countdown begins immediately — there is nothing to set up first.
  2. Want a different length? Type into the minutes and seconds boxes, then press Start.
  3. Press Fullscreen to fill the screen with the digits, which is what you want across a room.
  4. Leave the tab open and carry on working. The tab title counts down, and the alarm still sounds.

What people time for 3 minutes

Three minutes shows up wherever something needs to steep, set or settle.

  • Black tea, a French press plunge, instant oats
  • Soft boiled eggs with a properly runny yolk
  • A boxing round, or a round of circuit training
  • Timed writing sprints and brainstorming bursts
  • Ice baths, cold showers and mobility holds

Three minutes is the classic boxing round for a reason: long enough to get tired, short enough to keep working at pace. If you are training rounds rather than a single block, the interval timer will run work and rest back to back without you touching anything.

Change the length without leaving the page

The minutes and seconds boxes above accept any duration — this page simply opens with 3 minutes already loaded. If another length is the one you reach for, the pages below open pre-set and can be bookmarked.

Questions about the 3 minute timer

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The page is built for small screens first, and it asks your phone to keep the screen awake while the countdown runs so the display does not dim on you mid-round.

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The countdown is measured against your device clock rather than counted by the page, so switching tabs or opening another app does not slow it down. The alarm sounds at zero as long as the tab is still open.

Can I use it at work, in a gym or in a classroom?

Yes, without restriction. Project it, put it on a shared screen, or link to it — there is no licence to buy and no commercial-use limit.

Why can I not hear the alarm?

Check that the Sound button reads Sound on, that your device is not on silent, and that the tab is not muted in your browser. Browsers only allow audio after you interact with a page, so the first press of Start is also what switches the sound on.
